The Europiccola model, created back in 1961, with an 8 cup boiler capacity, has undergone numerous modifications since it's creation, to improve (or not) the usability, making the maintenance easier, and safety purpose also, adding at some point, a pressure stat under the base for example.
The classification of the EP models is based on the modifications the manufacturer from Milano made over the years.
The most noticeable visual differences between the 3 generations La Pavoni made are clasified in 3 large categories:
- La Pavoni Europiccola 1st generation has a bolt on group head (no side bolts holding the group head are visible). The base has a specific shape and the group head bell shape also.
- La Pavoni Europiccola 2nd generation features a group head of 50mm exterior diameter measured at the center of the bell shape and is secured to the boiler with two side bolts. Inside the group head you will not find a removable sleeve jacket. Original bases were silver or gold chromed or painted, usually a brown color.
- La Pavoni Europiccola 3rd generation features a group head larger in diameter of 60mm measured at the middle of the bell shape, has an internal removable plastic sleeve jacket and uses the new 51mm NEW GEN accessories.
The Professional model was created back in 1976-1977, trying to introduce the larger boiler, to meet some customer's requirements of having a larger 16 cup coffee machine in their homes.
Most noticeable change from the Europiccola model is of course, the larger capacity boiler, the added pressure gauge that monitors the boiler working pressure, an added pressure stat or switch under the base to keep the boiler pressure gauge as constant as possible without the over hissing of the earlier Europiccola models and protected heating elements with the help of a thermo-fuse.
