La Pavoni Lever Machines The Truth About Milk Frothing and Steam Performance

La Pavoni Lever Machines & Milk Frothing with a little Latte Art on the side

Yes,these machines can do it !

There is sometimes / or often online, a misconception that a La Pavoni lever machine is mainly an espresso machine and that milk steaming is somehow its weakest point. In reality, a La Pavoni Lever Machine, Europicola or Professional, can steam / froth milk very well — but the steam tip makes a significant difference in how easy it is to control the process and the end results.

The standard three-hole steam tip can release steam quite annoying. For some users, especially when making smaller quantities of milk for flat whites or lattes, this can make it harder to introduce air gradually and establish a consistent vortex (and faster) before the milk becomes too hot.

Don’t get me wrong. I know a small procentage praise the standard three hole steam tip. I know others just stick something into the other 2 holes and block them and so, create their own DIY single hole steam tips. This article is not about these situations or those type of users.

It’s about our single-hole steam tip can make a surprisingly big difference.

With one steam outlet, the steam is more concentrated and easier to control.

Instead of having several powerful streams of steam working against each other, you can introduce air more gradually and work the milk at a more comfortable pace. For many La Pavoni users, this makes achieving silky microfoam much easier and more repeatable.

And the best part? You don’t need a large commercial machine to make beautiful milk drinks. You simply need a La Pavoni and that’s it.

The photos below were shared by a Coffee Sensor customer – THANK YOU VINNY S.

He used his own La Pavoni, showing beautifully textured milk and some lovely latte art.

What makes this even more enjoyable is that Vinny started with the machine as a hobby project and gradually discovered which modifications actually made a difference to his everyday use.

The original email from him can be found below:

I originally bought my La Pavoni as a hobby project. My plan was to rebuild it, learn how the machine worked, and along the way figure out which of the many available modifications actually felt necessary and which ones I could live without.

One of the first things that stood out to me was the stock steam tip. The first time I tried steaming milk with it, I struggled to get the texture I wanted. My milk became frothy and was getting hot before I could establish a good vortex. Since I make a lot of flat whites and lattes, I figured the single-hole steam tip was a simple enough modification to try.

It was basically a two-second switch, and I noticed the difference immediately.

The best way I can describe it is that the steam didn’t necessarily feel stronger, but it felt much more concentrated and controllable. Establishing a vortex became easier, and I had much better control over when and how much air I introduced into the milk. Instead of feeling like I was racing against the machine before the milk got too hot, steaming became something I could actually slow down and enjoy.

For such a small modification, it made a HUGE difference in how I use the machine.

Coffee sensor has helped turn my little pet project into my favorite way to enjoy my espresso’s and flat whites.

This is exactly why I love working on La Pavoni Lever machines.

Sometimes the biggest improvement doesn’t come from changing the machine completely or by using the most expensive upgrades I have — it comes from understanding FIRST how it works and ONLY THEN making a small modification that gives you way better control and results in the cup.

A properly set-up La Pavoni can make much more than just a great espresso.

With the right technique and a better simple single hole steam tip, it can produce silky milk, flat whites, cappuccinos and latte art too.

Bellow you can find his pictures and the truth about La Pavoni Lever machines milk frothing and steaming in general.

If he could do it, so do you.

Try it and get back to me with a real feedback !
